Learn why valve removal plugs are so useful at work sites that want to stay productive.

One of the many products that Heshka Oil manufactures for our customers are valve removal plugs, also known as VR plugs. In this post we’re going over what valve removal plugs are used for, their construction and how to order removal plugs for your valves.

Valve Removal Plug Uses

These API 6A monogrammed valve removal plugs allow operators the ability to remove these valves under pressure to perform maintenance. They are installed in the wellhead through the wing valves.

Sizes

Valve removal plugs come in several different sizes. Some of the most common VR plug sizes are:

  • 1-1/4”
  • 1-1/2”
  • 2-3/8”
  • 2-7/8”
  • 3-1/2”

There are also high-pressure valve removal plugs that come in slightly different sizes than standard plugs. These typically come in 1-3/4”, 2”, 2-1/2” and 3” sizes.

Threading

Standard valve removal plugs come in two threading types: line pipe and sharp V thread. High-pressure valve removal plugs have ACME threading.

Pressures

A standard VR plug is operable up to 10,000 PSI. The high-pressure valve removal plug that has an ACME thread can handle pressure up to 20,000 PSI.

Materials for Any Application

In addition to the different sizes and types, valve removal plugs are manufactured standard in a 4130 material but can also be manufactured in other materials to suit your application, while meeting the specifications of API 6A.

Quality Parts You Can Trust in the Most Extreme Environments

Valve removal plugs must be reliable because someone’s safety while working depends on it. At Heshka Oil we use a quality control system to ensure every part that ships is operating properly. It’s an extra step that we think is worth taking so that you can be confident in the quality of your components.
